OLD FAVORITES. NEW POSSIBILITIES.

A little more play. A lot less digging.

Recompiled Games is an independent guide to community game ports and browser releases. We put the useful bits together: what a project is, where it runs, what you need, and the right place to start.

Different paths to the same old favorite

Static recompilation translates an existing executable into code that can run on another platform. Decompilation reconstructs source code; it may still only build the original console program. A source port adapts an existing engine, while a recreation implements new code. We label the method instead of calling every project a finished native port.

What our buttons mean

  • Play on a named provider: opens a browser-player entry on another site. Page availability and tested gameplay are labeled separately; the game is not hosted by this catalog.
  • Own files required: the engine needs original data you supply. The catalog does not provide those files.
  • Download the port: takes you to an upstream native release; it is not instant web play.
  • Project & source: opens the project’s documentation or repository.

A status is not a guarantee

Playable, Experimental and In development describe the linked project’s stated status. “Source reviewed” means its documentation was checked on the displayed date. It does not mean we completed the game, measured its frame rate or certified every device. Browser launch tests are recorded separately from source reviews, and unverified capabilities are not promoted as facts.

Discovery is not a review

Some entries begin as factual project leads from Recompsoftware, checked against an upstream repository address or README sample. Names, platforms and project links help discovery; the reference site’s articles, descriptions, pictures and application code are not copied here. A successful request does not establish a working build, a playable port or permission to redistribute its assets.

These entries carry “Not reviewed” and “Catalog entry checked” labels. Directory-reported targets and licenses still need an independent review. “View project” opens upstream documentation, not a verified game. Individually reviewed entries and actual gameplay checks keep their separate labels and scope.

Credit stays with the creators

These projects exist because their maintainers put in the work. Every entry links to its sources and describes the difference between the code license and game-data requirements. Covers and screenshots come from the linked project or original-game image source, with credit retained by their respective owners. They do not demonstrate this build’s graphics or prove gameplay. Missing or failed images all use the same neutral cover placeholder. Image-use rights are separate from code licenses and need review before a public release.

An independent preview

No publisher or hardware maker is affiliated with this catalog. There are no accounts, payments, public uploads or analytics in this local preview. External game providers have their own policies and can change availability. Before a public launch, the final domain, operator details and policies still need review.
